Stand or sit up straight and relax your shoulders.

  1. Find the bony tips on the tops of your shoulders — these are the points where your arms meet your shoulders. You can feel a small, hard bump on each side.

  2. Place the tape measure on the outer edge of one of these bumps.

  3. Stretch the tape straight across your back to the same spot on your other shoulder.

  4. Write down the distance in inches.
